Stage is set: Villages near Ludhiana converted for Aamir Khan’s Dangal

Villages in Punjab have lately come into the spotlight for being chosen as shooting locales for many Bollywood films. The latest example is Aamir Khan’s next film Dangal which is based on the life of wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat. Aamir will play the role of the noted wrestler and the film’s shooting is expected to commence in Kila Raipur and Gujjarwal villages, near Ludhiana, in the coming days.

Preparations for the film have reached its peak in these villages as the HT City team discovered when they visited these areas. The residents of these villages, be it children or the old, are more than excited to witness the making of the film and most of all none of them want to miss out on the opportunity to meet Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan.

Interestingly, all of them knew the selected spots where village bazaars have been converted to look like villages in Haryana where Phogat hails from. Shop names, hoardings, labels, advertisements and notices in the Punjabi language have been repainted in Hindi at these particular spots.

“We know that the story’s background has roots in Haryana but we are happy that the film team chose Punjab. It was interesting to see how the artists went about their work converting these spots so that we could feel like we were in Haryana. The owners whose shops were selected are being congratulated by one and all,” says Mohinder Singh, whose flour mill will be part of the film shoot and has been renamed as ‘Kala chakki wala’.

Similarly, Surinder Kaur’s beauty parlour and general store Guru Nanak Beauty and General Store has been renamed ‘Munayari Ki Dukan’. She says, “I am a big fan of Aamir Khan and I will surely take pictures with him. We have informed all our relatives about this great opportunity and we will also get the chance to see how films are made.” Besides bazaars, a few homes have also been finalised and traditional Haryanvi elements have already been introduced in these homes.

Meanwhile, Khan will be visiting Ludhiana district for the second time. He was here previously to shoot for Rang De Basanti at Doraha Fort. Some other recent examples of Bollywood films that have been shot in Punjab are Phantom that was shot in Malerkotla chosen to replicate Lahore and Singh is Bling that was shot in the Sangrur district.

Dhoom 4' with Aamir Khan bust for YRF

After initially thinking of making 'Dhoom 4', the makers at Yash Raj Films have decided to abandon the idea and give the director of 'Dhoom 3' a period love story to do.

There were some rumours earlier that Aamir Khan had signed a contract with Yash Raj Films that there will not be any fourth franchise to Dhoom.

Now it is clear that 'Dhoom 4' will not be made, at least in the immediate future.

The first two installments of 'Dhoom' were directed by Sanjay Gadhvi and the third one was directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya who had earlier directed 'Tashan'.

Now Vijay, aka Victor, has been asked to make this period love story and he is hunting for an actress to be the dream face that everyone wants to fall in love with.

Hrithik Roshan, in all probability, will join the cast of the new film.

“Hrithik was initially not too keen to work on another period film as he is already working on the mother of all period films 'Mohenjo Daro' directed by Ashutosh Gowariker. Then Aditya Chopra and Vijay Acharya managed to convince Hrithik to at least give them a patient ear till the final draft of the film is made. Hrithik has more or less made up his mind to work in the film,” informs the source.

We are also being told by well placed sources that the film will be the most expensive one ever made in the history of Yash Raj Films.

Aamir Khan Takes Charge Of Nephew Imran Khan’s Film

Aamir khan

Katti Batti director Nikhil Advani is all set to acknowledge Aamir Khan as a creative consultant on his film KattiBatti, the film that marks the return of Aamir’s nephew Imran Khan after 3 flops and a 2-year paternity leave.
Advani admits very candidly that Aamir has not only provided invaluable inputs to bettering the film but also re-written the film’s climax.
Says Nikhil gratefully, “Aamir has been maniacally obsessed with this film. He has gone all-out to ensure it turns out to be a special film, far more so than it would have been without his contribution. Katti Batti would not be the film that it is without Aamir’s contribution. After I signed Imran for the film I narrated the script to Aamir. He immediately suggested some changes that I incorporated.”
But the most substantial input was yet to come.
Says Nikhil, “The last 22 minutes of Katti Batti are completely Aamir’s. He owns the climax of plot , and I have no hesitation in acknowledging his contribution  in any way he wants.”

Aamir Khan cried and cried while watching ‘Katti Batti’: Nikhil Advani

Aamir Khan cried and cried while watching ‘Katti Batti’: Nikhil Advani

We all know Aamir Khan is a very emotional person and needs just a little tug at the heart to get his eyes welled up.

Well, that’s what seems to have happened with him while watching ‘Katti Batti’ which features his nephew Imran Khan.

Director Nikhil Advani has told NDTV, that Aamir Khan cried ‘copious tears’ while watching the film starring Kangana Ranaut and Imran Khan.

“It's a tearjerker. The last 22 minutes and I literally had to sit and hold the tissue box for Aamir. He has copious tears! And he was crying and crying and crying. And I was so happy,” Advani is quoted as saying.

Aamir Khan took a personal interest in the movie and sat with Nikhil Advani in the editing room. But even while editing, Khan’s tears would not stop.

“You watch it once that's great. After that, he sat with me 10 days in the edit and every day he would cry! Everyone would be like - '?' And he would be like, 'I can't help it yaar,” Advani said.

‘Katti Batti’ is a modern love story about a commitment phobic girl who lives life on her own terms. The role is played by Kangana Ranaut. Imran Khan plays a man hopelessly in love with her.

The film will release on September 18.

hah Rukh Khan game for film with Salman and Aamir

Shah Rukh Khan game for film with Salman and Aamir

There’s been some talk of producer Sajid Nadiadwala planning a magnum opus with Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan together for the first time. While the talk is pretty much speculative, SRK says he’s game for such a film though it would be very difficult to write and make.

In an interview with Hindustan Times, Shah Rukh Khan opens up about the possibility of a film with the other two leading Khans of the industry.

“I think it's difficult to do a three-hero film, especially when all the three heroes are leading mainstream actors. A lot of times, it gets difficult to make a film with even two smaller heroes, as both think of themselves as stars (smiles). In this case, the three of us are actually stars. But, I feel, it might not be a problem. All three of us are humble enough to understand that we are doing a film [together]. We have to choose a film in which all three of us are equal. We should do [a film like] Ghostbusters (1984). That film has equal roles for all the three heroes (laughs).”

SRK revealed that Salman Khan also has a funny take on the three Khans doing a film together.

“One day, Salman cracked a joke. He said, ‘Guys, we three won't do a film together. We will only end up fighting. One will keep using his brains, another will finish the work quickly, and someone will not reach the sets on time.’ So, we discuss stuff like this,” Shah Rukh Khan revealed.

The superstar says it’s difficult to accommodate three big heroes in a single story and doing justice to their respective roles. But if such a project comes along, and if it is good, King Khan is game for it.

“Today, if I were to write [a script] for Varun (Dhawan), Ranveer (Singh) and Ranbir (Kapoor), it would be hard. Not only because they should have equal roles, but because it must do justice to them all. It's a difficult proposition to write a three-hero film, and then get three heroines, and three villains (smiles). If it happens, it's great and even if it doesn't, that's also good. The three of us don't exist because we should be in cinema together. Instead, we exist because we should be in cinema,” Shah Rukh Khan said.

The superstar will next be seen in director Rohit Shetty’s film ‘Dilwale’.

Salman Khan and Aamir Khan fallout: What happened between the two?

Salman-Aamir

Salman Khan and Aamir Khan have been friends ever since they turned Paplu Taplu, err Amar Prem in Andaaz Apna Apna. And their bond has been rock solid. At times when either of them have gone through a rough patch or tumultuous times, the other one has always been there, providing a sense of security. Point in case? Salman was there when Aamir was going through a break up in his marriage and Aamir too stood like a rock during Salman's battle with law. But now, things seem to have taken a different turn. All's not well between the two Khans. And somehow, it's evident as well. Following a series of incidents that has happened in the last few weeks, it's almost a given that both the actors aren't even on talking terms at the moment.
Here's an episodic explanation of how the cold war started...
How it started?
Salman signing Sultan hit the nail in the coffin, we believe. Aamir has been prepping up for months to achieve a particular body prototype for his next film, Dangal, that revolves around wrestling. Salman, on the other hand, will just be working out for two months now before Sultan goes on floors. In any case, Aamir has lost out on almost a time span of 8 months which he's spent in just getting ready for the film. And now that both Sultan and Dangal will dwell on similar plot lines, Aamir has started freaking out. Why? Despite announcing Dangal earlier, Salman might just take the cherry away because his film releases on Eid next year, almost five months before Dangal hits screens next Christmas. The similarity in the theme might prove detrimental for Dangal and the film may end up looking repetitive. That's Aamir's main concern for now.
Aamir hogs the limelight!
At a time when Bajrangi Bhaijaan is shattering records, Aamir Khan tried to take away the limelight from his friend Salman by claiming that it was he who was offered the film first. While we do understand that Aamir might have claimed the same in jest and excitement, his claims coming right after BB was shattering his own records was far from just being coincidental. At a recent party too hosted by Salman, Aamir went around telling all invitees how Kabir Khan had approached him before finally getting Salman on board. This didn't go down well with Salman who reportedly had a brief altercation with Aamir at the party which soon turned into a heated argument. Onlookers present were asked not to talk about the episode to anyone but soon, the news was out everywhere.
Salman's reply and Kabir's denial
While Aamir kept claiming being the first choice for BB, director Kabir Khan rubbished all such claims and told reporters that he had never made an offer to Aamir. Also, Salman, when asked about the same told the press, "Aamir told me that the writer had approached him and he suggested my name. Now it's either Aamir saab's generosity or..." What Sallu left unsaid is still echoing in the gossip corridors of Bollywood.
Aamir strikes back
Call it insecurity or just being cautious, Aamir seems to be keeping a tab on Salman and his next, Sultan. The moment he heard that Ali Abbas Zafar has finalised real locations in Haryana to serve as the backdrop for Sultan, Aamir was worried. Why? The actor has plans to shoot Dangal in the same regions and Salman shooting his film in Haryana has only added to Aamir's woes. What Aamir did next is unbelievable. He called Aditya Chopra and requested him to shift his shooting locations. Adi, being a good friend has now decided to scout for new locations in Punjab. While Aamir might be a little relieved now, this hasn't gone down well with our Bhaijaan who's left fuming at Aamir's antics.

Chiranjeevi Birthday

Bollywood actors Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan will most likely attend megastar Chiranjeevi's 60th birthday party on Saturday.

Big B and Aamir are expected to attend a lavish party that Chiranjeevi's son, actor Ram Charan Teja will host for his father here on Saturday in a plush hotel.
"Invitations have been sent to Amitabhji and Aamirji. Both of them have confirmed that they will attend the event at all cost," a source close to Ram Charan told IANS.

"Charan is very close to the Bachchan family and when he extended a personal invitation, Bachchanji immediately agreed to be a part of the event," the source said.

While fans of Chiranjeevi have already begun celebrating in the city, his family and close friends are looking forward to the event on Saturday evening.

"Telugu stars such as Venkatesh, Nagarjuna and Jagapathi Babu are also expected to attend it. Chiranjeevi's brother Pawan Kalyan, who is busy shooting for 'Sardaar Gabbar Singh', will also be present," the source added.

Meanwhile, the source also confirmed that Chiranjeevi will play a cameo in his son's yet-untitled Telugu film with director Srinu Vaitla.

A film on Twinkle Khanna will be called Hunterwali: Aamir Khan

We all know Aamir Khan as the serious actor-crusader. But at the book launch of Twinkle Khanna's Mrs Funnybones, the Bollywood actor proved that he has a sense of humour too. He traded insults and jokes with his Mela co-star even as Twinkle's husband Akshay Kumar, mother Dimple Kapadia and director Karan Johar lent the event some serious star value.

"All of us have different abilities and Twinkle is really talented in some of the most amazing activities like insulting people, she is an expert in insulting people. All through my life, since I've known her she has just constantly insulted me," Aamir said.

Aamir, along with Karan Johar, was present at Twinkle's debut book launch here on Tuesday. KJo had his share of Koffee with Karan with Twinkle as the main guest. Karan asked Aamir did he think Twinkle was a good actress? To that, Aamir jokingly replied: "I thought she was fantastic." Aamir and Twinkle have worked together in Dharmesh Darshan's directorial Mela in 2002, which bombed at BO.

Not that Twinkle was far behind. She said, "I caught Aamir crying behind a rock because he had gone to our Mela director Dharmesh Dharshan to explain a shot and the director didn't listen to him so he was heartbroken."

To this, Aamir's someback was, "A film about Twinkle would be named Hunterwaali." The book launch was also attended by veteran actor Jaya Bachchan, Sussanne Roshan and Sonali Bendre.

Speaking at the launch, Twinkle, who has emerged as a popular columnist, said that her book finds humour from a woman's perspective, in the state of women in India. "Mrs. Funnybones is about how modern woman looks in India and how India looks back at her. We live in a world where we have sent a satellite to Mars, but we are looking at the moon and praying for our husband's long life."

Twinkle took digs at her husband Akshay Kumar and as well as others including politicians. Replying to Karan's question of whom she wanted to be Akshay's next heroine, Twinkle said, "Jayalalithaa. I will make her into a caped crusader."

In a similar vein, she said Radhe Maa--the self-styled godwoman who is under scanner in a dowry harassment case--should have a reality show. When asked if she were Ranbir Kapoor, Twinkle said, "I wouldn't speak because Kat (Katrina) has got my tongue." If she were Deepika Padukone, the Barsaat actor said she would do every thing as it's "my choice", a reference to Deepika's much-talked-about video. Twinkle said she would make Akshay the Sports Minister if she were Prime Minister Narendra Modi. "I will look for my mommy," she said when Karan asked her if she were Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi. When Karan asked what will she find in actor Aamir Khan's phones, Twinkle said, "Pictures of naked aliens."

Twinkle Khanna also claimed that her husband Akshay Kumar is her editor. "I have been writing for two years now. You all discovered it late... I had this since childhood. Akshay's input is to remove words.. He is my editor," Twinkle said.

Twinkle Khanna, Aamir Khan: 15 Years After Mela, They Are Finally a Hit

Aamir Khan

MrsFunnybones' easy, self-deprecating and irreverent humour has won her a dedicated following but, at the launch of her first book in Mumbai on August 18, there were several reminders that Twinkle Khanna is not the aam aurat the title - She's Just Like You and a Lot Like Me - might reveal her to be. She is, in fact, Bollywood royalty and perhaps there was no better barometer of this than the presence of actor Aamir Khan who played a starring role in the evening's proceedings.

Aamir, who co-starred with Twinkle in 2000's ill-fated Mela, is a close friend of the former actress and her actor husband Akshay Kumar. How close a friend? He was the videographer at Twinkle and Akshay's hush-hush 2001 wedding to which almost nobody was invited. "Twinkle constantly misuses me, she made me the videographer on her wedding. That's the job she gave me," he told reporters.

Ahead of the book launch, Aamir told the press, "Twinkle has always had a great sense of humour. When I acted with her, I didn't know she'd become such a good writer. I'm very happy she's written this book. I've read her articles and they are very funny. I congratulate her on her new career and I wish her all the very best."

This typically Aamir-like gravitas evaporated the instant the 50-year-old actor took the stage with Twinkle, Akshay and filmmaker Karan Johar, also a close friend of the newly-minted author. "Mr Khan doesn't want to come on stage because he's thinking he will get arrested and this is like the AIB Roast," was the verdict pronounced by Twinkle and Karan before the PK star joined them. (Also

This challenge of sorts was accepted. Aamir, introduced by Karan as the 'man responsible for her marital status and the reason why she married Akshay' (they married after Mela flopped) took part enthusiastically in the banter that ensued, matching Twinkle and Karan insult for insult.

Twinkle's most damaging revelations about the Khan included this: "I caught Aamir crying behind a rock because he had gone to our Mela director Dharmesh Dharshan to explain a shot and the director didn't listen to him so he was heartbroken."

She also said that she used to send him her articles when she first began writing and that he would rubbish them and send her back links to his TV show Satyamev Jayate. "He competes with me, he competes with everybody," she said.

This appears to have been partly true. "I didn't think she would make it as a writer. I used to tell her, just because everyone likes watching cricket doesn't mean they can play," Aamir said. He did also say that he wasn't as dismissive of Twinkle's writing as she seemed to think. "When I started reading her articles, I realised she was very funny, perceptive and I was most impressed by her."

Aamir delivered this backhanded compliment to his former co-star, managing to both insult and praise her like a boss: "It was really good working with Twinkle because I discovered that behind this bimbette kind of exterior there is this sharp person with a great intellect and sense of humour who is very perceptive about human relationships."

Also this, which is essentially MrsFunnybones' origin story in brief: "Twinkle is talented in some of the most amazing activities. She is very talented in insulting people. She has constantly been insulting me, great fun working with her."

And the final, damning judgement: "A film about Twinkle would be named Hunterwaali." Mischief managed.

Perhaps MrsFunnybones' brand of humour is infectious, but this was an Aamir rarely seen now but much missed - unguarded, politically incorrect, less the Aamir of Satyamev Jayate and more the beloved slacker of films such as Rangeela and Andaz Apna Apna.

Is Salman Khan's 'Sultan' giving Aamir Khan sleepless nights?

Salman-Aamir

Salman Khan and Aamir Khan have been friends for the longest time. Not just that, the two have been quite vocal about it as well. But recently, there have been hints of a fallout between the two. With Salman's Sultan and Aamir's Dangal both getting ready to go on the floors around the same time, tension is building up all the more between the two Khans.
Sultan and Dangal, both revolve around wrestling and the life of a wrestler. While Sultan is essentially a love story of a wrestler, Dangal is loosely based on Mahvir Phogat's life. But both film seems to have the same premise and that has only added to Aamir's woes. Why? Says a source, "Salman is going on floors this November and will be seen flaunting two body prototypes. Aamir has planned to start shooting for Dangal from September but he will be taking a break in between to shed all the weight he's gained to shoot for the first half of the film where he plays a young wrestler. Salman doesn't need to worry about that as he is not playing through different ages in the film."

Bajrangi Bhaijaan writer confirms the film was offered to Aamir Khan

#

Some eager-to-score websites are going all-out to prove that Aamir Khan was not offered Bajrangi Bhaijaan. They have quoted director Kabir Khan as saying he never approached Aamir Khan.

This is technically true.

Kabir, who is a man of impeccable integrity, is telling the truth. Kabir never approached Aamir. However, it was Bajrangi Bhaijaan writer Vijayendra Prasad who had approached Aamir.

And here is Prasad's memory of the meeting with Aamir. "Frankly, I don't know why he said no to Bajrangi Bhaijaan. But when I narrated the story to him I had seen his eyes moisten. Later I heard through my producer that Aamir had recommended Salman Khan for the role. Story-story pe likha hai actor ka naam."

Having said this we must beseech actors to stop talking about roles that they have turned down. It's in very bad taste. We now have some Big Boss contestant Ali Quli Mirza claiming he was offered Nawazuddin Siddiqui's role in Bajrangi Bhaijaan.

One hopes some child actor doesn't come forward claiming first rights over the role of Munni.

Aamir Khan's bulked up physique is bang on

Aamir Khan, the reserved but bonafide superstar, has literally created his legacy on his style of no-nonsense, heartfelt on-screen personas. His ominous appearance in Ghajini though, was what put him in the illustrious list of best B-town bodies. The fact that Khan could sculpt a physique so sinister, was a clear indicator that this wasn't the last time we were going to see him in this avatar. He's currently in the process of transforming himself into a menacing wrestler for his upcoming movie, Dangal, for which he has already put on 10 kg of rock hard muscle. Knowing the perfectionist that he is, we won't be surprised if he turns up on D-day with the most behemoth physique we are yet to witness on Indian television.

"You need to be extremely particular to be able to put on lean muscle mass at Aamir Khan's age. It becomes extremely critical to work in a set order and to be very specific about your workout, as well as your meal timings. If you really want to build a solid back, perform this routine at least once a week. Make sure you complete at least eight to 10 reps. Try to stick to three or four sets."

Aamir Khan was offered 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan', he suggested Salman's name

Salman was third in line to be offered the role. PHOTO: JILAAGA

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan says his recent blockbuster Bajrangi Bhaijaan was first offered to his close friend Aamir Khan who suggested the Dabangg star’s name.
Bahubali director SS Rajamouli’s father KV Vijayendra Prasad wrote the initial script of Bajrangi Bhaijaan. Salman wasn’t the first one to listen to the script, rather it was Aamir.

At a special press conference on the success of Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Salman was asked if Aamir was offered the film first.
“Yes, Aamir told me that Prasad had come to him and he sent him to me. So this is just Aamir sahab’s generosity,” Salman said.
Asked about Prasad’s contribution to the film, Salman said: “The father of Bahubali director Rajamouli wrote the subject of Bajrangi Bhaijaan. So the first question we asked him was why didn’t you ask your son to direct the film and why not there (south India)?
“He said that was because there was a difference in language. He said if this film has to be made, it has to be made very authentically.”
Despite being from the southern film industry, Prasad is no stranger to Bollywood.
“He saw Ek Tha Tiger, and keeps on telling me that he wants to meet my father. Before starting any film, he would watch Deewaar, Zanjeer, Sholay and only then begin the film,” said Salman.
According to a report, Aamir had certain issues with Prasad’s script and sought some modifications in it. However, Prasad refused to oblige.

The report said Hrithik Roshan was the next one to be approached. He liked the script but felt that it was expensive. Salman eventually heard it and instantly gave him the signing amount.
